Edinburgh’s Usher Hall will celebrate Halloween this year with a special screening of 1923’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame – and we have a pair of tickets to give away to the event on Thursday 31 October.
Set in 15th century Paris, the story involves a hunch-backed bell-ringer, a gypsy queen and a plot to stir-up a peasant revolt for personal gain.
Hunchback was Universal’s “Super Jewel” of 1923 and was their most successful silent film, grossing over $3 million. The film is most notable for the grand sets as well as Lon Chaney’s performance and spectacular make-up as the tortured bell-ringer of Notre Dame.
