Original House of Cards on Blu-ray

With David Fincher’s big-budget House of Cards currently streaming on Netflix, the BBC has decided to capitalise on its success with a re-release of its own 1990 version of Michael Dobbs’ novel.

BBC One produced its House of Cards trilogy – comprised of House of Cards, To Play the King (1993) and The Final Cut (1995) – starring Edinburgh-born actor Ian Richardson as the Machiavellian Westminster politician, Frances Urquhart, with his sights set on greater things.

Fincher’s series has relocated the action to Washington, with Kevin Spacey taking on Richardson’s role, now renamed Francis Underwood.

The BBC will release the complete House of Cards trilogy on 8 April, with a pre-order now available via Amazon.co.uk. You can also pre-order the US version on Blu-ray.

Is it worth investing in the series? You might well think that, I couldn’t possibly comment…
